The 2020 Range

After the success of the 2019 Players Boston Bag, the brief for the 2020 Australian Open collection expanded in both size and scope. On top of the player bag, an on-court bag for chair umpires was included as well as a stowaway duffle. The brief also had an increased emphasis on the goal to reduce the environmental footprint of the range, particularly in terms of the materials used.

For the players, we developed an active travel pack. The objective of the design was to build on the language developed from in the previous year, which took its influences from Melbourne, the city in which the Open is held. The pattern’s curved, clean lines reference the cities architecture which is combined with understated sports detailing. It’s clean exterior hides it’s super organised functionality, including an internal pocketing system that takes advantage of the front vertical zip.

Organisation was the driver of the Chair Umpires On-Court bag. It’s layout allows for each umpire to neatly access their tournament appointed items, necessary for umpiring a match, as well as their small personals. Two different lightweight body fabrics were developed for use across the range, both made from recycled materials. This was combined with trims made from a low impact leather alternative and minimal hardware. All produced in a classic Melbourne black colourway.
