Welcoming Georgia Wilson to the Soft Serve Family

We’re absolutely stoked to have Georgia joining the Soft Serve team as Junior Industrial Designer. As a recent Swinburne Uni grad, Georgia explored how to give commonly found plastics a second life - through 2nd Gen, a collection of recycled furniture. We’re pumped to explore 2nd Gen even further and see what impact it can make in the soft-goods world.

We had a quick Google Hangouts coffee-break to catch up with the newest member of our team:

HEY GEORGIA, TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR GRAD PROJECT AGAIN - WHERE DID IT ALL START?
Hey! It all kicked off with inspiration from the 70's - and specifically cane furniture. I really wanted to experiment on how to make similar shapes - but with a new, longer-lasting palette. I wanted to look at using metal work to replace the steam-bent tubing & recycled HDPE for everything else.

THOSE RECYCLED SECTIONS LOOK INCREDIBLE, COULD BE PERFECT FOR A CUSTOM CARRY HARDWARE?
Absolutely, the shredded HDPE only needs to be heated & compressed - and can work at any scale too. The colour combos you can create are next-level, the weirder the source material, the better.

WE RECENTLY COLLABORATED WITH DOWEL JONES ON A NEW PROJECT, NEW MODEL. HOW WAS THAT FOR YOU? YOU MUST HAVE LOVED WORKING WITH DOWEL JONES ON THE CAMPAIGN SHOOT?
For sure, I’m a massive fan of Dowel Jones - I’ve actually been to their studios for a sample sale, but to be involved in the project was amazing. And I got a chance to look over the final bag design. I can’t wait to help with the production event when we all get back to normal again.

AND AS THE RESIDENT COFFEE CONNOISSEUR, WHAT'S THE DRINK OF CHOICE AT HOME THESE DAYS?
It’s a french press with Code Black beans and a dash of milk - Made sure to run down and grab an emergency stash of beans before we all started working from home. But I’m super keen to get back to the studio for a drip coffee though!

DITTO, THANKS GEORGIA!
